A COM 265X Chapter Notes - Chapter 9: Sampling Frame, Theoretical Definition, Operational Definition
Document Summary
Research in an objecive, systemaic, empirical, and cumulaive process by which we seek to solve theoreical and applied problems. Theories are consistently changed, added upon, and edited to keep up with current beliefs, knowledge, and technology. Tradiionally, research in the social and behavioral sciences is approached objecively. Descripive research tries to idenify or describe events or condiions. Explanatory research looks for underlying causes and explanaions of events. Idenifying worthy quesions that invesigators have not yet answered: posing and developing a problem in need of a soluion, reviewing past research and wriings about this problem. Once deining the problem that needs to be researched, we must go to the appropriate literature to see whether others have already addressed similar issues. This will help the researcher focus on the precise quesion that needs to be answered. Some theories will suggest an inducive approach, while others may want researchers to test a hypothesis.
