Document Summary

The nervous system is living tissue composed of cells. Neurons fundamental of communication: receive, integrate, process imformation and make sense of it transcript information, supported by glia. Mirror neuron tie us with others action: and with others feelings-magnify for empathy. Glia: supply nourishment to neuron, help remove neurons waste products, provide insulation, detect neural impulses and send signals to other glial cells, can feed signals back to neurons. Neurons use electrical signals and chemical signals to communicate: electricals: action potential, within the neuron, chemicals: neurotransmitters. Absolute refractory: minimum length of time after an action potential, during which another action potential cannot begin. All-or-none: action potential is the same size, but the neuron can convey information about the strength of a stimulus by varying the rate at which they fire action potential. Two neurons don"t touch, separated by a synapse cleft, a microscopic gap between the terminal button of one neuron and the cell membrane of another neuron.
