Document Summary

Simple questions simple answers, no debate or deeper understanding. Argument--placement of evidence in logical form in support of a position or claim. Necessary & sufficient conditions searched for; i. e. one thing is necessary for something to happen, but what is the thing that is sufficient enough/really sets it over. Some questions lead to biased arguments, they lead you to a certain answer/down a certain path, even if they are somewhat open ended. Question of "how" is also good, leads to debates. Open-ended--question that, in principle, is open to numerous possible answers; no hunch or expected answer is built into it, so researcher can remain open to what the evidence reveals. When getting more specific, do not build answer into question or assume that you"re research is the only answer. Right & wrong relates to casual/empirical arguments vs. normative arguments. Empirical--drawn from observations of the world, link cause & effect, uncovering answers to why the political world operates as it does.
