After 9/11, many couples both gay and straight went to register as domestic partners so they would be on hospital sheets and emergency listings. Author is confused by the lgbtq agenda to push marriage equality, when there are other issues she deems more important like universal health care for lgbtq. Some believe that marriage is far to confined and doesn"t explain much or represent a couple. Attempts to promote marriage have been attached to welfare reform legislation since 1996. Women are encouraged to marry in order to accumulate joint wealth and better insurance. Women are also encouraged to put boyfriends on birth certificates so they can depend on child support. Marriage movement pushes for traditional marriage with restricting divorce, punishing adultery, teaching abstinence and bringing kids up under tight parental control. Gay marriage is not considered to be traditional marriage. Suggests that marriage become only a personal matter, that the state has no control over.
