Document Summary

Two-thirds of people are hyperphagic, meaning that they eat when stressed. The rest are hypophagic , meaning they intake less food when stressed. When recovering from stress you block energy mobilization, and store nutrients in your bloodstream. One of the critical hormones of the stress-response stimulates appetite, while another inhibits it. They don"t stimulate appetite for any foods, just sugary, starchy, fatty ones. Crh inhibits appetite in stress, glucocorticoids enhance appetite. Crh takes seconds to act, glucocorticoids take minutes. When stress is over, crh is cleared quickly, glucocorticoids remain in bloodstream for much longer. First few minutes of stress mean high crh levels. High crh, low glucocorticoids mean little appetite. Middle of stressor means high crh and glucocorticoid levels. This is a good time to have appetite suppressed and if crh effects are strong enough, it will be. Recovery period means low crh levels and high glucocorticoids. Body replenishes energy stores it depleted during stress.
