Doubtful of the existence of bodily things. Certain that meditator is a thinking thing that doubts, understands, wills, imagines, senses, etc. But god might be deceiving the meditator. Must inquire into the nature of god to see if god is deceptive. Think of a man, a chimera, the sky, an angel, or god. Cannot be mistaken with regard to ideas on their own. An idea (object of a thought) and a further thing (affirmation or fear) directed towards the object of thought. Cannot be mistaken with regard to volitions or emotions. Can make mistakes with respect to judgements. Most (cid:272)o(cid:373)(cid:373)o(cid:374) (cid:373)istake is to judge that the ideas i(cid:374) o(cid:374)e"s (cid:373)i(cid:374)d (cid:272)o(cid:374)for(cid:373) to or resemble things outside the mind. Considering ideas in the mind only as modes of thought and not referring them to things outside the mind render them immune to doubt. Three sources for ideas (unsure which ideas come from where) O(cid:374)e"s (cid:449)ill has (cid:374)o effe(cid:272)t o(cid:374) ad(cid:448)e(cid:374)titious ideas.
