Some stress is necessary to keep us alert and active: according to hans selye, healthy stress can be referred to as eustress. Prolonged stress can affect our mood, impair our ability to experience pleasure, and can harm the body and mind: health psychology studies the relationships between psychological factors and the prevention and treatment of physical health problems. These psychologists study how stress can lead to illness, how people can cope with stress, and psychological interventions: daily hassles and life changes. Daily hassles are regularly occurring experiences that can harm our well-being: ex: cooking, cleaning, being sick, being too overwhelmed with things to do, being lonely, crime in the area, weather affecting plans, finances, bad work environment. Life changes are majority positive and occur irregularly: ex: death of a spouse, academic failure, graduating from college/high school, hassles, life changes, and health problems. According to an apa survey, 3 of 4 respondents reported that finances are the main cause of stress.
