The basic property of all music is sound ;sounds and music are referred to as tones (music sound) A tone is a sound whose principal identity is a musical identity as defined by people who make or experience that sound. Tones possess four basic physical properties: duration= length frequency= pitch. 3. amplitude= loudness timbre= quality of the sound, color tone. Tones have cultural meanings from the symbolic associations that people attach to them. The sounds and silences that comprise a musical work are organized in some way. Music is a form of organized sound. Ex) melodies rhythms and instrumental sounds are recognizable.
