Child development -- study dedicated to understanding the changes through adolescence. Child development is part of a larger field known as developmental science which focuses on all experiences through our lifespan. Child development is wanted to aid in all areas of life that involve the life and growth of children; school, medical, social services etc. This field of science is interdisciplinary (relates to more than one area of knowledge) Changes in body size, proportions, appearance, functioning of body systems, perceptual and moto capacities, and physical health: cognitive. Changes in intellectual abilities, including attention, memory, academic and everyday knowledge, problem solving, imagination, creativity, and language: emotional and social. Periods of development: prenatal period: conception to birth, the nine months before birth that include the most rapid growth in a child"s life; from an single cell to a full human body. Infancy and toddlerhood: two year period that brings out the beginnings of language and intimate ties with others.
