Each of us learns rules and norms around sexual behavior the who, what, when, where, and why of what we are allowed and not allowed to do sexually. These rules and guidelines are termed sexual scripts (gagnon & simon, 1973; kimmel, 2007). Sexual scripts are schemas for sexual concepts and events, used in guiding one"s behavior and interpreting others" behavior. In this script, men asked for the date and initiated physical contact (rose & frieze, 1989). In more recent studies, much of the old date script is gone, but it is still the guy who makes the first advances (krah et al. , 2007; seal et al. , 2008). The ideology of love is positive, but it is sometimes used to justify horrible acts such as stalking, sexual assault, and even murder (see chapter 12).
