Document Summary

The cartographic illusion argues that the world is not made up of interacting nation-states but rather that the real system of power is constituted of transnational organizations which have no definable borders since they can expand throughout many countries. Essentially, the author is arguing that nation-states participation in the global economy has become less meaningful as the participation of transnational organizations has become more meaningful. I agree with the author, nowadays it seems like corporations are the real ones in power. The westfailure system goes into detail on areas with flaws of the westphalian system (system of nation-states) such as ecological, financial, and social areas. The author argues that it must be changed as it is not satisfying the long term conditions of sustainability. I agree with the author that reform must occur, especially ecological reform as it is the most vital to human existence.
