Document Summary
Traditionally, the new year is a symbol of a fresh start for japanese citizens, so the last week of the current year is spent scrambling to finish up the last tasks. Citizens from kyoto are most known for their attention to customs of the year, especially the geisha. Geisha always give thanks to the teahouse that she served the night before, the morning after. A geisha"s transition into adulthood is very special. Must announce all facts to teahouses in a ceremonial fashion in which she serves. This benefits herself and the community; she never makes announcements for the convenience of her clientele. Is usually held at the geisha"s house that she trained at. Each geisha will bring a large mochi cake with citrus. Older geisha have their names at the top of the display in large letters, while younger and newer geishas have their names at the bottom.
