WRIT 107T Chapter Notes - Chapter 10: Usability Testing, Guideposts
Document Summary
Graves & graves chapter 10: writing how-to- documents. People are more likely to buy a product if they knew it had a clear manual. People are willing to pay extra to get instructional documents they know they would be able to use without frustration. How to make instructions, procedures, and manuals easier to use: Level of experience with the subject matter of the instructional material. Experience with and attitude towards learning new things. Observe the target users as they work with other similar types of documents. Allow users to determine whether the document is the right one to help them answer their questions. Help users decide whether the instructional level is appropriate, too elementary, or too advanced for their current skills. Provide list of requirements/equipment needed for the procedure. Provide conceptual overview of the content of the document to assist users in processing new information. If conditions apply to the action, include them in a phrase/dependent clause before the imperative.
