Africa"s great deserts known as the sahara in the north and the namib and kalahari in the south. Sahara"s southern sub=desert fringe is called the sahel from the. Savannas, flat grasslands, extend in a swath across continent"s widest part of south central africa and along the eastern coast. Richest habitats in the world and account for 55 percent of the african continent. Dense humid tropical rain forest along coastal west africa and on both sides of the quarter in central africa. Climate is mostly tropical with subtropical climate limited to the northern and southern coasts and the regions of high elevation.
