Poem 1: at god"s command, finds hope in god. Poem 2: found god in nothingness, god will remain when everything else is gone, god is in everything and is everywhere. Iranian sufi: lived from 858-922, persecuted and found guilty of heresy. Hallaj: god made me into the person i am. Al hallaj says about god: saying words don"t/can"t describe him, omniscient force. Book 5, chapter 3: there is no religious explanation for scientific/philosophical phenomena, had to believe, even when things didn"t make sense. Book 5, chapter 4: a man who knows science but does not know god is surely unhappy.
