Document Summary

Brain plays critical if not primary role for every kind of behavior. Neuroscience: study the connection between the brain and behavior. Information from the environment is translated into the language of the nervous system and relayed to appropriate processing sites throughout the body. Actions are adaptive producing quick appropriate response. Ex: slam breaks when dog is in front of car. Widespread and long term internal communication; structures in the body release chemicals that do regulatory functions, influence growth and development, desire to eat/drink, emotional expression. Ties back to nature vs nurture argument. Anatomy of neurons -- world to brain communication. Neuron: cell in the nervous system that receives and transmits information. Sensory- initial contact with environment, carries back to spinal cord and brain. Interneuron- most common, pass it on neuron info. Motor - carries message away from central nervous system to muscle and glands to produce responses (know 3 types functions)
