Despite rising numbers of people using the internet, newspapers and television news main the most widely used media sources. Most scholars to date have focused their research on tv news and especially newspapers. Scientists connected climate change to more popular issues like nuclear winter and ozone depletion. Extreme drought in 1988 lead more americans to feel greater vulnerability to climatic forces. 1997 kyoto conference which established climate change as a major issue in global political arenas made a peak in media coverage. Large range of news stories about social, political, economic, and cultural topics related to climate change. Climate change coverage has become more ubiquitous which raises important questions. Relationship between meteorological phenomena and climate change coverage in newspapers and television news is far from clear. Weather was undoubtedly not the most important determinant of attention to climate issues. Political events and release of scientific reports are more likely to influence amount of attention climate change receives.
