ASIAN 230 Chapter Notes - Chapter 5: Vaishnavism
Document Summary
The buddha told mahakasyapa (who was telling the story about the son and father) that he explained the real merit of the tathagata. The tathagata is the king of teaching and whatever he teaches is never false. The sizes of the trees in a forest depend on their capacities. The rain makes them grow according to their nature of their various seeds. Flowers bloom and fruit ripens in the same place but they are still different from each other. He enters the world like a cloud and can be heard by everyone. The tathagata tells everyone to come and listen to his teaching. He teaches them in a variety of immeasurable ways, benefitting them all. None of the people know their own natures; only the tathagata knows this. For this reason, he doesn"t immediately teach omniscience (this means knowing everything)
