Poverty is often skewed as a black issue and portrays the poor as jobless. 48% of the impoverished are white and 51% of impoverished people hold at least some part time jobs. Elderly poverty saw the greatest reductions from 1960-2000. Nas poverty rate is higher than official and relative is higher than both. Extreme poverty is highest with african americans and children. Impoverished people lack four basic material conditions. Greater reported poverty under and over the poverty line when compared to the poverty threshold. Poor households still own a number of consumer goods. Impoverished families are much less likely to own their own home and car. Has much deeper impacts on a family"s ability to earn a decent living. Poverty is usually a short term issue for individuals. Poverty even has a high turnover month to month. The longer one is in poverty, the harder it is to escape it.
