Document Summary

Chapter iii: poverty: its causes and remedies from f. w. Causes of poverty may extend over a long period of time. There are root causes which are not always easily seen. If hereditary characteristics do contribute to poverty, environmental factors certainly outweighs (likely by a margin of 3 to 1) Poverty can be thought of as an inertia. The movement towards poverty is very likely for indolent individuals. Sickness and disease is the greatest cause of poverty. Unemployment causes poverty that is less permanent. Disease makes it more expensive to stay alive (medical costs) while also making it nearly impossible to work. Making the wrong choices is perhaps the determining factor for staying in poverty. One can be more successful with less money if they know how to be frugal than one who wastes a large income. Also relates to wasting opportunities (jobs, etc. ) Drugs and alcohol destroy a person physically as well as morally/mentally.
