Document Summary

Before galton, individual differences were not considered appropriate for study. Juan huarte (1530-1592) recognized individual differences 300 years before galton. He suggested that children be studied early in life so their education could be individually planned in accordance with their abilities. This was in his book the examination of talented individuals . Francis galton was extremely intelligent, born in england youngest of 9 children. Father was a prosperous banker and was part of many spheres of influence. Galton learned quickly and began medical training pressured by his father. Studied mathematics and meteorology; he traveled throughout africa. He was not interested in the genetic side of evolution. His first important book for psychology was hereditary genius where he argued that individual greatness or genius occurred within families; this meant that environmental influence was not the cause. His data showed that each famous person inherited not only genius but a specific form of it.
