Family studies: these studies were supposed to test the proposition that criminality is more likely to be found in certain families, which would indicate that crime is inherited. Goddard researched the kallikak family: most of the children became criminals, goddard even took pictures of them to prove they appeared evil altered photos. Twin studies: the examination of identical twin pairs versus fraternal twin pairs to determine the relative influence on criminality between nature and nurture. Wanted to know the concordance rates b/w mz twins and dz twins regarding delinquency. Concordance: a count based on whether two people share a certain trait (or lack of trait) Discordant = when one has the trait but not the other. Mz twins have higher (2x) concordance rates than do dz twins. Problem: identical twins are dressed/treated/and expected to act the same way . Problem #2: determined if twins were mz/dz only by sight .
