Book notes social psychology: scienti c study of the way in which peoples thoughts, feelings and behaviors are in uenced by the real or imagined presences of others: parents, friends, employers, teachers, strangers- by the entire social situation. Direct attempts at persuasion: peer pressure, advertisements, bullies. These direct attempts at social in uence are a major aspect of social psychology. Social in uence: effect that words, actions, presence of others have on thoughts, feelings, attitudes or behaviors. Social in uences broader that attempts by a person to change another persons behavior. Personality psychologist focus on individual differences (aspects of personality that makes people different) Social psychologists believe focusing on behavior leaves out the powerful role of social in uence.
