- Sherry Turkle is a psychologist and sociologist of technology.
- What does she mean by “alone together?”

o ppl want to be together but also elsewhere- want to be in all sort of places, want
to customize what places they are at.
- What is her argument and what evidence does she use to support it?
o Psychologically powerful- change what we do and who we are. 2:45
o Goldilocks effect 5:50- relationships- close but not too close-
o In person- cant control what you say.. texts and emails you can edit and stuff
o Feels like no one is listening irl- robots, tech, fb, twitter- seems like you have a
lot of automatic listeners
o We expect more from tech from each other (12:00)
o Being alone- we reach towards our phones for comfort. Except now people are
losing their ability to be alone, seeks comfort in other people but loses ability to
see who they are- rather, now they’re a means to an end
