Variety within unity: when a work of art has a strong sense of unity that is interrupted with some aspect of elements that diverge from the predominant compositional scheme. The use of the same or similar elements over and over again in a composition, is a strategy to create variety within unity. Repetition can be used by the artist to emphasize unity and with it order and harmony.
