SOC 302 Chapter Notes - Chapter all: Stanley Milgram
Document Summary
Stanley milgram wanted to prove scientifically that germans are different. This hypothesis has been used to explain the systematic destruction of the jews by the third. His thesis is that germans have a readiness to obey authority without question. He developed a laboratory experiment to prove a systematic way to measure obedience. He would start in connecticut and then germany. He wanted to know what makes some people more obedient than others. He staged a play where everyone but one was an actor. The one who was not is the subject of the experiment. He could chage a prop and see how the subject responds. Milgram had to change a lot of the script to get people to stop obeying. Milgram choose this person and tell them to choose a card that would be either the teacher or the learner.
