EVSC 1080 Chapter Notes - Chapter 2: Decomposer, Detritivore, Limiting Factor
Document Summary
Evsc 1080 chapter two notes: the troposphere contains the air that we breathe, consisting of mostly nitrogen and oxygen. Only 1% of air includes water vapor, carbon dioxide, and methane >> greenhouse gasses >> which absorb and release energy that warms the lower atmosphere. Without these gasses it would be too cold for life. The next layer is the stratosphere, containing ozone that filters out the sun"s harmful. The next layer is the hydrosphere, consisting of all of the water on or near earths surface. The next layer is the geosphere, the earths intensely hot core. Most of the geosphere is located in the earths interior. The biosphere consists of the parts of the atmosphere, hydrosphere, and geosphere where life is found. Limiting factor principle- too much or too little of any abiotic factor can limit or prevent growth of a population, even if all other factors are at or near the optimal range of tolerance.
