Document Summary

We are embedded in contexts that influence, and are influenced by us. Ex: as an infant, the family context is most important because infants spend all of their time with caregivers. All of our contexts interact, and therefore influence each other. We are also embedded in a culture that influences our values, attitudes, and beliefs. Lifespan human development is how we grow, change, and stay the same throughout our lives. Changes we go through in infancy influence how we experience later changes. Lifespan development can be described by several principles: It is multidimensional, multidirectional, plastic, influenced by multiple contexts, and multidisciplinary. Prenatal (conception to birth): most rapid period of physical development. Infancy and toddlerhood (birth to 2 years): environmental influences stimulate the brain to grow more complex. Become more independent and interested in interacting with other children. Early childhood (2 to 6 years): children grow steadily. Aware of right and wrong, as well as their own feelings.
