Document Summary

The physical elements are organized into several major physical building blocks, which are called chunks. Chunks implement one or a few functional elements in their entirety. The interaction between chunks are well defined and are general fundamental to the primary function of the product. Functional elements of the products are implemented using more than one chunk. A single chunk implements many functional elements. The interactions between chunks are ill defined and may be incidental to the primary functions of the product: rarely are products either modular or integral. Slot the various chunks cannot be interchanged, they each have their own interface. Most common of modular architectures: bus- connect via the same interface, sectional- chunks connect together, does not connect to anything and all same interface. Product change: reasons to change the architecture: In the above case a modular architecture allows the firm to minimize the physical changed required to achieve a functional change.
