Document Summary

Socrates wants to know what it is like to be holy and feel holiness. Euthyphro says the first step is persecuting religious offenders. Socrates says god is often quarrel which means what is agreeable to some gods is not always agreeable with others. Approve of the gods, if they approve of something, it doesn"t always mean that the thing is holy. Socrates seemed like the ignorant one at first, however he later decided euthyphro was the ignorant one. This shows that euthyphro was not the teacher, socrates was. Piety: charging/prosecuting anyone that"s guilty, no matter whom it is. Euthyphro changes his statement, piety is what the gods approve of, and impiety is what they don"t approve of. All of the gods disagree, so it"s hard to justify what is pious and impious. Zeus may approve of ones punishing of his father, but kronos may not.
