Document Summary

Slide 2: how much of the drug you give through any of the routes of administration, after this administration, there will be some of this drug in its active form circulating in the circulatory system, effective dose. Some drugs we consume orally, this will lead to the drug not being absorbed 100% Iv injection is not very practical: patients prefer oral route, easy and convenient, we have a large range because of the variability. Im and sc has a high bioavailablility: because muscles have a high blood supply, very narrow range, with rectal administration, you bypass liver metabolism. Inhalation: very rapid onset, also gives wide range, transdermal, there is very low rate of absorption. If you take something else, like grapefruit, it will inhibit these pumps which will inhibit the drug from being pumped back to the lumen after being absorbed: this will lead to increased bioavailability.
