He is trying to look for a relationship between islam and democracy. He found that it is not necessarily that these countries are not democratic because they"re islamic. Women find themselves supporting authoritarian regimes rather than regimes they know nothing about. Arab countries valued democracy more than non-arab countries, yet they had much less democracy. Males are not working and females are not working because of the distribution of oil wealth. Ross was saying that oil was a problem. The us should push for the government to provide more economic opportunities for women. The us can fund / force the gov. to enforce the creation of opportunities for women. Liberal feminism isn"t talked about in the middle east. This is because it usually has to do with gay and lesbian rights. Gay and lesbian rights are not discussed in the middle east.
