Better understanding of not only the order but the difference (between different points on the scale) So, if we manipulate hours of watching tv, we have a better understanding of the influence or effect it has. Helps us to understand phenomenons that we can"t measure in minutes or any conceivable measurement with intervals. To noir is not enough: reliability and validity. To create credible measurements in our research we have 2 tools of assessment: That we actually measure what we mean/intend to measure and that we measure the same phenomenon every time. Make sure that we are assessing the correct variables. Refers to the repeatability of findings -- measures should produce the same result each time. - repeating measurements on the same phenomenon and looking for the same results every time. The word we should think of is consistent/consistency.
