Heavy anti- aircraft fire helped keep the crews from remaining in the area. During this time in order to determine the effects of the attack a heavy cruiser and one transport needed to be reported as hit, along with a second cruiser, hit on the stern. That night, four patrol bombers needed to carry. Mark xiii torpedoes out to create the first nighttime torpedo attack by patrol planes on surface ships.
