The majority of gun-related murders in the united states in 2019 were not related to mass. Many less direct acts of aggression lead to tragedy. Almost all of us have engaged in at least minor acts of aggression. Violence - a term generally reserved for acts of aggression with more severe/lasting consequences. Acts of aggression that lead to serious harm or death also have wide-ranging effects on those who care about the victim and the collateral damage from aggression extends to those who witness it, often experience symptoms of trauma. Affective aggression - person intends to harm the other person simply for the sake of doing so; motivated by a strong affective, or emotional, state, often is impulsive, but it can be delayed and calculated. Instrumental aggression - when someone intends to harm another person to serve some other goal; is not triggered by strong emotions, but it"s still intended to harm.
