Human culture - chapter 1: what is anthropology. Anthropology - a discipline of infinite curiosity about human beings. Anthros is greek for man, human and logos for study . Anthropologists want to discover when, where, and why humans appeared on earth, how and why they changed and how/why the biological and cultural features of modern human populations vary. Concerned with people of all times and periods. Traditionally concerned with non western cultures, but in recent years this division has begun to disappear. Able to correct mistaken beliefs about different groups of people. Refers to an approach that studies many aspects of a multifaceted system. I. e. , physical environment, family life organization, features of language, settlement patterns, political/economic systems, religion, styles of art and dress, etc. Past focused on as many subjects as possible. Now usually specialize in 1 topic of area.
