The dark/iron age (1100-800 bce): loss of writing and figurative art. Archaic period (800-479 bce): homer to the end of the persian wars. Classical period (479-336 bce): the end of the persian wars to the death of alexander. Hellenistic period (336-310 bce): death of alexander to the death of cleopatra. Roman period (309 bce 330 ce): death of cleopatra to constantine and the byzantines.
