Document Summary
The rise of the republics, the democratization of the republic and the expansion of citizenship had important consequences when it came to social change. The demise of dynastic states brought an end to rivalry for control of empires that erupted into world wars. The fall of dictators ended dirty wars, gulags and general violence against the citizenry. Expansion of citizenship curbed violence in both the government and private sectors. Global social change has been partial and complete. Citizenship has not been granted to all the inhabitants of any republic. Hierarchies exist every nation, country, state, county, city, gender, age and race. Denizens are the residents with some, but all of the rights extended to citizens. These are children and immigrants and at one time they were women, slaves, indentured servants, people that didn"t own land . There are three types of social movements: aspiring, altruistic, and restrictionist.
