Euthyphro and the apology: aristophanes as cultural critic a. i. Celebrating old values, but wary of the newest trends: who is/was socrates? b. i. The socratic challenge: athenians had a radical view on citizenship, knowledge and politics, citizenship- dangerous to have prophets poisoning the minds of lower orders. People had duties and obligations in society: knowledge- was not enough for socrates to be a delegated citizen. It s not about how you live your life, but instead how. Into the self, but also into the city, becomes kind of soul craft: politics-doubt in the gods, laws, and athenian elites. Philosophical inquiry a: socrates finds himself in the middle of a conversation. Socrates: used public debate as a platform of engaging people. Plato: student/ youth that meletus accused socrates for corrupting, came from an elite family and was tutored by socrates.
