Document Summary
Bit- a 1 or a 0, the building block of binary, and it is the smallest unit of data. Binary is groupings of bits that have a meaning to the computer. When converting from binary a base 2 number system to decimal a base 10 number system, we start on the right, and head left. Note: the small 2 means that this is in binary. A small 10 means that a number is in decimal. Decimal is the number system we use in our day to day lives. 256, 128, 64, 32, 16, 8, 4, 2, 1 a full byte worth of values. When converting every number that is a one is used and added to the total. Convert the following binary to decimal: 1001= 9, 0011=3, 1011=11, 1111= 15. Start by finding the largest base two number that fits inside it. Here the largest number that fit is 8. So we put down a 1 in the 8 spot.
