Document Summary

Human population has grown 400% during 20th century. We"ve used more natural resources since 1955 in all history. We are using an unsustainable amount of marine resources. Marine resources become more important as populations increase. Comes from deposition, precipitation, accumulation of useful substances in ocean or seabed. Petroleum and natural gas are most valuable ocean resources. 30-33% of oil and natural gas come from seabed. Offshore drilling is more expensive than drilling on land. Demand for sand is really high, like in dubai. There"s a high need for potable water. Gain in importance as source of potable water, technology is still too pricey. Used by distillation, freezing, or reverse osmosis. Result from extraction of energy directly from heat or motion of ocean water. Effective since winds are more steady over water. Wind speeds over ocean are higher than on land, generally. Less stress on blades as result of more steady winds.
