Document Summary
Scholars have tried to understand the process and outcomes of european integration. Since mid-1990s, interest in understanding the impact of europe on nation states. Studies draw on general theories from comparative and intl politics. If you accept that europeanization is happening, so that the eu has an impact on nation states itself, if you look at countries in the traditional way (let me compare these democracies), you might miss a big picture. Single market and emu have fundamentally changed the europe. Impact on domestic politics (institutions, policies, party system) Effect on candidate countries (enlargement criteria, democracy and market economy) Gives some european states access to the single market without being part of the eu after undergoing some constitutional changes e. g. switzerland. Seem to make association agreements work more efficiently e. g. ukraine in 2012, and then in 2013 constitutional changes were refused by the govt.
