Spanish is a very useful language but can be hard to master without proper study skills. These tips can help you learn the language and how to truly speak it.

Don’t memorize

Never try to memorize another language, it won’t work. You must learn how to speak it and learn the patterns in order to actually master it. There are many grammar changes in Spanish that will catch you up if you simply memorize them, but by learning the patterns, you can’t be tripped up.

2. Speak it often

It can be a habit to leave school at school but with another language you need to consistently work at it. This means when you’re showering, talk out your day in Spanish. Or when you are making lunch, talk out what you’re in Spanish. This will help your mind become accustomed to speaking the language.

3. Work with a friend

Find someone else who is in the same level Spanish and talk to each other to practice. In this way, you are learning to talk and also learning to pick up on mistakes the other person is making in order to lessen your mistakes. Talking with a friend is excellent practice for the oral exams as well.

4. Go to the professor’s office hours

Going to office hours may be intimidating but it can be so beneficial! In an one on one setting, the professor can correct you and tell you what you need to work on more in order to prepare for exams and presentations. Professors also recognize the extra time that goes into coming to office hours.

5. Write it

Writing the language helps to visualize the words and how they go together as well as preparing you for the exams. Write about a newspaper article or even a diary entry and you’ll notice a difference in your in-class writing! Being able to write efficiently helps to speak efficiently as you visualize in your head.

Spanish can be such a fun and useful class if you put in the skills to succeed in it. These skills can be gained through these 5 tips and you’ll be sure to succeed.
