Students who play sports in high school often look to play in college. Students go through a number of processes to get on their teams to gain a college experience like no other. 1. Men's and Women's Basketball Team
The Binghamton Bearcats men's and women's basketball team competes in the NCAA Division I tournaments. These teams are coached by Tommy Dempsey and Bethann Shapiro Ord. Students can contact the Athletic Office in order to learn more about the recruitment process. Students must have high endurance, stamina, and a number of skills to do drills and shoot the ball in the hoop.
2. Baseball Team
The baseball team competes in the NCAA Division I of the American East Conference. This team is coached by Tim Sinicki and regularly plays home games at Varsity Field. Students can go through a recruitment process to meet the coaches and to bypass the walk-on tryouts. Otherwise, students must go to walk-on tryouts to be able to be considered for the team. Students must know how to bat and hit the ball, run from base to base, and catch.
3. Men's and Women's Cross Country Team

Students interested in joining can participate in the walk-on tryouts or take part in the recruitment process. 5. Swimming and Diving Teams
The men's and women's swimming and diving teams compete on a local and international level. These young adults are on their way to competing during the Olympics in which they represent the Binghamton Bearcats. Students wishing to be considered for this team must take part in a recruitment process. This process can start as early as high school and will include your overall swimming evaluation during meets.
6. Cheer Team
The cheer team represents the Binghamton Bearcats at a number of tournaments and cheer competitions. Students who are interested in being a part of this team must tryout each spring. Students will be evaluated on not only how loudly they can yell and cheer, but also their ability to execute a number of stunts which includes round-offs, tucks, herkies, a toe touch, and more.
7. Golf Team
The men's golf team represents the Bearcats at a number of local and regional golf tournaments. This team is coached by Bernie Herceg. Most members are recruited so if you are looking to be a part of this team you have to reach out to the Athletic Office for more information. During this process, you will be able to meet the coaches and have your overall golf performance evaluated during various meets.
8. Wrestling Team
The wrestling team consists of strong and well-equipped men who are ready to rumble. Students on this team often meet weekly and take part in tournaments and meet throughout the academic year. Students who are interested are recruited throughout high school. Students must know the game of wrestling and have the strength to fight. These are the things that you will be evaluated on if you tryout.
9. Lacrosse Team
The men's and women's lacrosse team program allows students to learn and play the game of lacrosse. Tryouts will consist of a number of drills and running.
