Biology 2050 is a required course for almost every health-related major and anyone who is a biology major. There are many professors that teach this course at Bowling Green State University. Professor Karen Sirum is one of the most challenging professors but, here are five reasons you want Sirum to teach your course.
Reading quizzes are some of the only things that can keep your grade up in BIOL 2050. They are given for homework every night and they pertain to what will be taught in the lecture the following day. Reading quizzes are easy points, as long as you try on the word documents you’re bound to get points.
2. Canvas notes
After a lecture, each day she puts all the slides on canvas. This is also where Sirum puts the study guides for the exams. After lectures, it is a good idea to go through all the questions on the slides so you are prepared for the exams.
For each concept quiz or exam, you will be allowed to create a concept map. This will be an 8 ½ by 11 pieces of paper with a concept map on it that you can use during the exam. There are only allowed to be words or short phrases in the bubbles and each line must have a statement about why it is connected.
Sirum’s lectures do consist of a lot of students. She has learning assistants and has the entire lecture divided into teams. Your TA will be your mini professor. They will be the person you go to for questions during class and outside of class.
5. Concept Quizzes
Each exam in Sirums class will be fully written. There will be multiple choice questions on each Concept Quiz but you are expected to give an explanation about why you picked the option you chose. The fully written exams allow Sirum to see if you fully understand the material.
The course may seem very hard, but with all the extra credit opportunities you should be able to pass no problem. Studying is key to pass but Sirum provides multiple aids to succeed in the course.
