Finals can be a very stressful time for college students. We all struggle with not knowing what to study, stressing about all the previous exams and wondering if we will be able to pass the course for the semester. At Bowling Green State University, we have a week on campus known as “dead” week. This week is the entire week before final exams… and here is how to make the most use of your time during “dead” week:

1. Book your study space in advance

Everyone on campus begins to cram for exams. The library is full. All the lounges in dorms are full. Sometimes, even your room can be too distracting. Be sure to book your study space way ahead of time, at least a week before “dead” week. You don’t want to be the person who can’t find a spot to study.

2. Make use of your free time

During “dead” week, there aren’t many other events going on around campus. This means you’ll have plenty of free time. Make sure that you are using this time wisely. Allow yourself some time each day to study for your upcoming finals. It’s proven that students who cram for exams do worse than those who study over a longer period of time.

3. Focus on studying (don’t go out)

Yes, Thursdays and the weekend are prime going-out-times. There will be ugly sweater parties and plenty of Christmas parties but… missing these to make sure you do good on your finals should be the priority. There will be plenty more weekends to party with your friends, so just allow yourself this time to study for your exams.

4. Attend every scheduled class time

This may seem like a no-brainer but, be sure to go to class during “dead” week. This is most likely when professors go over the key topics that will be covered on the final exam. If you go to class, you will most likely have the upper hand when it comes to the final exam.

5. Attend office hours

It may be the end of the semester, but attending office hours will never hurt. By going to office hours, your professor can get to know you. You may also get some extra hints for the final exam. It’s never too late, unless it’s after the semester has ended. Going to office hours could make the difference between a B and an A, which could change your whole GPA.

I am a Freshman at Bowling Green State University. I am involved in Greek Life and other organizations on campus. My major is Gerontology, which is a heavy biology major program. I love adventuring around the town and going to the different events on campus. I'm always open to trying new things and I love to be involved!
