With the many papers, exams, and homework assigned in college, it is hard to maintain a healthy, active lifestyle. Sometimes you are just too tired to get up or maybe you just have way too much work. Nonetheless, it is very important that you maintain a healthy lifestyle on campus so here are some tips to do so.
1. Set a Fitness Goal for Yourself
The goal that you set for yourself does not have to be big. Some people create a goal of running 5 times a week for 20 minutes. Others may want to lower their time running a 5k by 20 minutes! It does not matter how big or small your goal is, as long as you have one.
2. Try to Avoid Unhealthy Foods
This is definitely a challenge in college with all the desserts in the dining halls and instant ramen staring you down. However, it will benefit you greatly if you can cut some of these foods from your diet. The majority of your diet should be healthy foods. That being said, you don’t have to stop eating unhealthy foods altogether. Maybe there are one or two days in the week where you eat some junk food. It all depends on the goal you set for yourself.
3. Designate a Time in Your Schedule That Works for you
Although easier said than done, try to find a set time in your schedule where you can be active. Maybe take an hour or half an hour out of your day to go for a run or hit the gym.
4. Try to Find Some Motivation
One thing that usually works for most people is looking online to find some motivation. Many people try to have a specific schedule to go to the gym but sometimes, they simply don’t feel motivated enough. This is when they would go online and read some people’s success stories about working out.
5. Work out With Friends!
If being active alone is boring for you, try to do so with friends. Not only will you be maintaining an active lifestyle, you’ll also be spending time with your friends, which is arguably one of the most important aspects of college.
6. Join a Club Sports Team
If setting a time in your schedule is difficult for you, it may be easier to have a schedule set for you. This is one of the benefits of a club/intramural team. They have pre-set times for practices and games so you don’t have to make a schedule yourself.
