One of the benefits of being a college student is being able to draw inspiration and knowledge from professors. However, it’s not always easy to let your professors trust and respect you due to the professor’s workload. Impressing professors is important because you will have a better connection and they are valuable resources to use whenever you want to ask them for a recommendation letter. Here are 5 tips to impress CSUF professors.
1. Introduce Yourself
After the first day of the class got up to your professor and say: “Hi, my name is….. I am looking forward to learning this course” or if you have accommodations say that instead. With this introduction, you are telling your professors that you are eager to learn and that you are a responsible student. Typically professors forget student’s names, but they won’t forget your name if you show them the positivity.
2. Write Professional Emails
Once in a while, you will meet professors that are more casual, a rule you must know is to make sure your emails sound professional. This is because you are an adult now, and professors expected you to act like an adult when you are at school. Your professors have lives and don’t want to waste time trying to figure out what their student sent them just because it didn’t sound adult-like. This also shows that you are responsible and sharp.
Whenever classes start, have your full attention on your professor. This is because you will need to listen to what the professors says for assignments and the opportunity to answer your professor’s questions. However, there is no need to dominate the class, but participate enough to show your professor or TA that you engaged in what the professor is talking about. Never be too embarrassed to raise your hand because you are going to class to learn.
4. Visit Office Hours
Whenever you are going to office hours, you are telling your professors “I care about my education”. Most students don’t go to office hours because they would rather go with their friends instead. When you go to office hours, have questions prepared so this way you can cut some time. Professors love it when you have questions prepared because it means that you are responsible adult.
5. Sit In The Same Seat
Whenever you sit o the same seat to class everyday, your professors will be able to recognize you every time you go to class. Always sit at the front so your professors won’t have a hard time seeing your face. To make them recognize you better, ask questions whenever you need.
At the end of the day, in order to get on the professor’s good side, you have to put yourself out there. It is your responsibility to communicate with your professors because you are an adult and professors don’t want to waste time taking care of students’ needs. Also, whenever you have a question, don’t be afraid to raise your hand because you have to care about your education to have professors to respect you. Impressing and getting your professors respect isn’t hard as along as you are an adult and responsible about your priorities.
