Cambrian College provides certificate programs with online courses for part-time students. The purpose of these courses is to provide a similar experience as traditional classrooms, but from one's own home and at one's own pace. Continue reading to learn of 20 online courses offered by Cambrian College.

1. Introduction to Dental Science and Dental Office Procedures (OFF1001)

This is a four credit course in the Dental Office Assistant certificate program. The topics for this course are dental terminology, anatomy, and general dental procedures. In addition, the course will cover dental specialties, booking appointments, patient records, and basic accounting.

2. Effective Communication in a Dental Practice (OFF1002)

Effective Communication in a Dental Practice is a one credit course in the Dental Office Assistant certificate program. The topics for this course include effective communication skills for dental offices, relationship between the professional dental community, and time management. This course is intended for those pursuing positions in clerical staff in the dental public health department, customer service representative in a dental office or insurance company, dental office administrator, or receptionist.

3. Commercial Construction Principles (CON1010)

Commercial Construction Principles is the first course in the Construction Management program. The topics for this course include building materials, construction methodologies, ease of construction, availability, and aesthetic perspective. In addition, the course covers commercial construction drawings and specifications. Although there is no required textbook for this course, students do need access to Word and Adobe Reader.

4. Commercial Construction Estimating (CON1008)

Commercial Construction Estimating is the second course in the Construction Management certificate program. The topics for this course include measuring techniques, excel spreadsheets, and interpreting construction working drawings. Most importantly, the course focuses on measurement accuracy, standard descriptions, estimating principles, and logical sequence of take-off.

5. Communication and the Food Service Worker (HEA0104)

Communication and the Food Service Worker is the first course in the Food Service Worker certificate program. The topics for this course include communication skills with patients, residents, co-workers and supervisors. In addition, the course covers writing and presentation skills for documentation and charting food intake. This course is intended for food service workers in health care facilities, dietary aides, and nutrition aides.

6. Working and Communicating in a Medical Setting (HEA0108)

Working and Communication in a Medical Setting is the first course in the Medical Office Assistant certificate program. The topics for this course include verbal and non-verbal communication, ethical behavior, confidentiality, time management, hospital organization, and human relations. There is no required textbook for this course.

7. Understanding Medical Tests for Medical Office Staff (HEA0103)

Understanding Medical Tests for Medical Office Staff is the second course in the Medical Office Assistant certificate program. The topics for this course include common medical tests, body systems, and educating patients about tests. This course is intended for those pursuing entry level and administrative support positions within hospitals and other health care facilities. The required reading is the 3rd edition of Delmar’s Guide to Laboratory and Diagnostic Tests by Rick Daniels.

8. Orientation to Palliative Care (PAL1003)

Orientation to Palliative Care is the first course in the Palliative Care certificate program. The topics include coping with death, interdisciplinary teams, hospice care, approaches to care, and roles of Palliative care workers. The recommended textbook for this course is Grief, Death, & Dying by Theresa Rando. Admission into this program requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or mature student status.

9. Comfort Measures (PAL1005)

Comfort Measures is the second course in the Palliative Care certification program. The topics for this course include comfort of terminally ill patients, realistic independence, and support systems. The recommended textbook for this course is the 2nd edition of Palliative Nursing: Improving End of Life Care by Shaun Kinghorn and Richard Gaines. This course is intended for students who have already been employed in law enforcement, paramedics, developmental disability workers, social service, counselors, or volunteers.

10. Business Writing Strategies (ENG1331)

Business Writing Strategies is the first course in the Professional Business Writing certificate program. The topics for this course include practical writing skills, emails, memoranda, letters, reports, and persuasive messages. Lastly, the assigned reading is Impact by Margaret Northey, 9th edition.

11. Business English Skills I (ENG0102)

Business English Skills I is the second course in the Professional Business Writing certificate program. The topics for this course include proofreading, editing, research process, and critical thinking skills. This course, which intended for those in administrative or managerial positions, is ideal for those starting their own business. The required reading for this course is the 2013, 7th edition of Canadian Business English by Guffey, M. E., Seefer, C. M. , & Burke, P.

12. Office Technology and Procedures (OTP1001)

Office Technology and Procedures is the first course in the Professional Office Assistant certificate program. The topics include office administration skills, attitudes, behaviors, and knowledge. This course is intended for those pursuing entry level office clerical support positions. Lastly, the required textbook for this course is the fourth edition of the Administrative Professional: Technology and Procedures by Rankin, Shumack, & Turczyniak.

Introduction to Computers is the second course in the Professional Office Assistant certificate program. The topics include computer system hardware and software, Windows operating system, file management, utility programs, social media, and privacy concerns. Admission into this program requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or mature student status.

14. Marketing a Trades Business (CON1014)

Marketing a Trades Business is the first course in the Trades Entrepreneurship certificate program. The topics for this course include marketing theory, marketing strategies, and practical exercises. This is intended for those in trades such as automotive service, plumbing, heating and cooling repair, electrical contracting, and carpentry. This course is intended for entrepreneurial tradespersons.

15. Financial Processes in the Trades (CON1015)

Financial Processes in the Trades is the second course in the Trade Entrepreneurship certificate program. This course covers business taxation dilemmas to provide a financial toolkit. This course is intended for those with their own business and those in management roles. The admissions requirement for this course is either an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or a mature student status.

16. Ethical and Legal Issues in the Trades (CON1016)

This is the first course in the Trade Leadership certificate program. The topics for this course include legal and ethical issues, ethical choices, and pressures of competition. This course is intended for tradespersons in business leadership. Lastly, the admission requirement is either an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or an equivalent mature student status.

17. Structure Inspection (HIC1001-003)

This is the first course in the Home Inspection (HICE) certificate program. The topics for this course include foundations and footings, floors, walls and roof/ceiling structures. However, the focus is on the application of such information to inspections on system performance and safety concerns. Students enrolled in this certificate program are encouraged to also seek membership in the Ontario Association of Home inspectors.

18. Electrical Inspection (HIC1002-003)

This is the second course in the Home Inspection (HICE) certification program. The topics for this course includes service drops, grounding systems, service panels, wiring systems, devices, and fixtures. The admissions requirement for this program is an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or an equivalent mature student status.

19. Communications (COM0104)

This is the first course in the Leadership Development certificate program. The topics for this course include communication styles, presentation skills, facilitating meetings, social marketing, and technology tools. This course is intended for students interested in developing their leadership skills for the achievement of their organizational objectives. The admission requirement for this program is either an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or an equivalent mature student status. However, the program is better suited for those with at least three years of work experience.

20. LDC1002 – Project Management

This is the second course in the Leadership Development certificate program. The course covers project life cycle, the Project Management Body of Knowledge, implications of project management on leadership, and managing project teams. This course is intended for organization leaders that are new to project management or have not received project management training. The tuition for this program depends on international rates.

In Conclusion, Cambrian College has 11 online certificate programs students can register for. These courses can be accessed through the school's internet portal with the student log-in to view the course modules, where lecture materials, notes, reading assignments, and homework can be found. Although these are asynchronous part-time courses, there are due dates for all assignments. The fee structure for these certificate programs include a $87.92 Cambrian Tuition Fee, $19.88 Cambrian Ancillary Fee, and $95.96 Ontario Learn Ancillary Fee.
