10 Buildings You Need to Know at Carleton College

Carleton College is a private liberal arts college located in Northfield, Minnesota. It was originally founded in 1866, and currently enrolls over 2,100 students. Here's ten of their campus buildings you should know!

1. Willis Hall

Address: 10 Goodsell Circle, Northfield, MN 55057

Willis Hall was the first campus building built at Carleton College. It was originally built in 1872, a couple years after the college was established. This is one of the main buildings on campus.

2. Goodell Observatory

Address: 25 Olin Drive, Northfield, MN 55057

Goodell Observatory is the second building built on campus. This giant observatory was built in 1887, very soon after the construction of Willis Hall. At the time that it was built, it was the largest observatory in Minnesota.

3. Scoville Hall

Address: 30 North College Street, Northfield, MN 55057

Scoville Hall was originally built in 1896, and is was recently remodeled in 2017. This beautiful building is now the home to the Carleton College Admissions office.

4. Larid Hall

Address: 14 Winona Drive, Northfield, MN 55057

Larid Hall is a massive Jeffersonian style building in the middle of campus. It was constructed in 1905, making it the fourth oldest building on campus. This building is home to all English majors at Carleton.

5. Skinner Memorial Chapel

Address: 31 North College Street, Northfield, MN 55057

Skinner Memorial Chapel is one of the most recognizable buildings on campus. Built in 1916, this building still holds many religious services throughout the year.

6. Leighton Hall

Address: 40 Olin Drive, Northfield, MN 55057

Leighton Hall is another recognizable building on campus. This building was built in 1920, and was originally built for chemistry and geology students. Leighton Hall still stands strong as the chemistry building on campus.

7. Evans Hall

Address: 12 Evans Drive, Northfield, MN 55057

Evans Hall is another large building on campus, built in the same style as most of the other buildings. Unlike the others, however, this is a residence hall building. There's plenty of study lounges, kitchens and more in this building.

8. Gould Library

Address: 50 Goodsell Circle, Northfield, MN 55057

Gould Library is the main library on campus used by students. There's plenty of sources and books for students to access in this library. This building is more new compared to others, since it was only built in 1956.

9. Olin Hall

Address: 11 Olin Drive, Northfield, MN 55057

Olin Hall is a more recognizable building on campus. This building has a unique appearance compared to other Carleton College buildings. It's funky design can be attributed to its 1961 construction.

10. Burton Hall

Address: 34 Evans Drive, Northfield, MN 55057

Another big residence hall at Carleton College is Burton Hall. This building is built in the same style as most other buildings on campus, which is a very pretty style. There are plenty of great study areas and kitchens in Burton Hall.
